Passport Portraits: Cyprene C.
“I want to go to Trinidad before going to Brown just because that’s where my family’s from and I think it would be a good thing to go see home before I go away for college. In the future, I’d love to travel to Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria -- all over Africa. I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions about the continent, so I want to explore and experience it for myself. I want to do a lot of research for my future career. I think that to do any type of research you’ll need to have a global perspective. I want to research more about global Black communities and Black women, so it’s important that I research Black people from all over the world. I don’t want to be biased and only have first-hand accounts from only Black Americans because Black people are across the world! Having a passport and being able to actually travel gives me the opportunity to have non-American Black first-hand stories so I can center them in my research. I want to have more than just a Westernized perspective.” -Cyprene C. (Brown University, Class of ’23)
